How It Works
Weight loss is not a straight line. As you lose weight, your body adapts by lowering your metabolic rate, increasing hunger hormones, and becoming more efficient at movement. This is called metabolic adaptation or "adaptive thermogenesis." Research shows that metabolism can slow by 5-15% beyond what is predicted by weight loss alone. This calculator models this slowing so your timeline is realistic, not optimistic. A safe rate of loss is 0.5-1.0% of body weight per week. At 0.7% per week, a 90 kg person loses about 0.63 kg in week one and slightly less each subsequent week. Plan for occasional plateaus — they are normal and usually break within 1-2 weeks if you stay consistent. Crash dieting (above 1.5% per week) causes excessive muscle loss and stronger metabolic adaptation.
